Tissue Perfusion Monitoring System

The CapnoProbe SL Monitoring System is an on-demand tissue perfusion monitoring system for oral application
The CapnoProbe SL Monitoring System is an on-demand tissue perfusion monitoring system for oral application. It measures sublingual (under the tongue) CO2, also referred to as PslCO2. This information is important because tissue CO2 is a reflection of how well tissue is using oxygen that is being delivered to it by the blood. The only other established indicator of tissue perfusion currently available is a clinical laboratory-based measurement - arterial blood lactate. Unlike lactate, PslCO2 does not have a long half-life in blood once it is elevated. Used with arterial blood lactate, PslCO2 is likely to be a useful measurement for a quick, objective confirmation of tissue perfusion.

The system consists of a handheld instrument and a disposable sensor probe. The handheld instrument is small, portable, rugged and battery operated. The disposable probe contains a self-calibrating CO2 sensor and attaches to the handheld instrument. The disposable probe is positioned under the patient's tongue like a thermometer and non-invasively measures the tissue CO2 of the mucous membrane in the mouth in less than one minute. This non-invasive measurement may be a supporting and sensitive measure of the adequacy of blood flow at the tissue level. When sublingual CO2 measurements are used with another sign and indication of tissue perfusion, arterial blood lactate, hypoperfusion may also be identified.
