People Power Introduces Senior Care Technology With U.C. Berkeley

Designed with leading academic research and includes new social connector features.

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) - People Power, the world’s leading software company for custom branded consumer services for senior care, security and energy management, announces today the delivery of an industry-first senior care technology designed to promote peace of mind for caregivers actively involved in providing care for persons with dementia. The breakthrough features are available to caregivers who have been screened and accepted into a trial study facilitated by People Power and University California Berkeley’s Psychophysiology Laboratory, headed by Dr. Robert W. Levenson. Key findings from the collaborative study will reveal how an intelligent connected solution can be designed to assist in the effort of delivering better care for people with dementia while addressing all-too-common feelings of isolation, stress and loneliness of caregivers.

The technological advancements combine mobile apps with intelligent cloud services, voice control and low-cost sensors to create a smart home solution with important care assistance and social outreach features which include:

Trusted Circles provide delegated oversight and control of home care solutions by forming trusted circles of people to receive alerts and share key moments that reduce senior loneliness and isolation.

Notification Screens add the ability to distribute critical updates to a family about specific persons’ actions in the home supported with a chronological record of their activities for helpful insights.

Alarm Call Tree serves to alert caregivers, key family members and 24/7 professional monitoring services if a senior loved one falls, is unable to move, or fails to get up in the morning.

Photo and Video Sharing gives families the easiest way to share uplifting moments, bring people together with content that becomes part of a family history, without requiring a senior to interact.

Outreach Reminders distribute text messages to a selected person to contact a senior family member on a recommended topic with a personal message to increase a sense of connectedness.

In-App Resources equip caregivers with on-the-spot information, guidelines, resources and how-to videos that add to their knowledge and confidence leading to improved senior care practices.

The technology breakthroughs incorporate People Power’s patent pending machine learning algorithms that evolve constantly by learning patterns of behavior in order to warn caregivers about incidents of concern and potential hazards. Critical insights and alerts for caregivers include AI-powered fall detection, wandering notification, activity and sleep monitoring, and more.

“Our research identifies the needs of in-home care providers, especially those in multi-generational families,” said Gene Wang, CEO of People Power. “Our technology is making lives better by forming trusted circles of people to share important family moments, ranging from care-centric alerts to delightful family memories. We believe sharing is caring.”

Spousal or family caregivers currently providing in-home care for persons with dementia are invited to participate in trial studies of this technology. The National Institute on Aging funds this research and there are no costs to eligible participants. For those interested in participating, please contact Scott Newton at the University of California by phone or email for more information. Call (510) 643-8952 or email ucbpl(at)berkeley(dot)edu.

“People Power’s technology addresses the worry and isolation that are often part of caring for a person with dementia” said Dr. Robert Levenson, Director of the Berkeley Psychophysiology Laboratory. “Because the technology works in the background to create a more supportive environment, it can provide important benefits to caregivers and individuals with dementia without making additional demands on caregivers’ limited time and energy. We are proud to be working with the gifted and dedicated team at People Power to help develop and evaluate this promising and innovative new technology”.

The work is supported by an SBIR award from the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number R44 AG059458-01.
