The NEW Merry Therapeutic Walker has been designed to meet the needs of ambulatory residents in long term care or assisted living
The NEW Merry Therapeutic Walker has been designed to meet the needs of ambulatory residents in long term care or assisted living who need fitness training to restore strength to their leg and arm muscles. Most falls in the elderly are caused by weakness to muscles. Once falls start to occur, the resident's safety becomes an issue and the resident is then placed in a wheelchair with a chair monitor.
The decline in physical and mental health starts with major disease involvement, such as pressure ulcers, and furthers atrophy to muscle tissue and contractures. The Merry Therapeutic Walker will stop this decline from ever occuring. Many physical therapists incorporate procedures that utilize weight lifting for their clients. However, it usually only occurs once a day for a brief period of time, and the physical therapy intervention lasts only a few weeks.
The purpose of the Merry Therapeutic Walker is to strengthen muscles, so no casters have been included in the design. The walker is to be lifted by the resident, thus affording muscle to be built each time the walker is picked up.
