Middletown, N.J (PRWEB) - Longtree & Associates, LLC, a leader in healthcare education, has announced its full 2015 course offerings for those seeking to become certified in various areas of healthcare and long-term care. The Middletown, N.J.-based company will offer workshops and seminars that prepare students to become a certified medication aide, licensed nursing home administrator, certified assisted living administrator, and certified dementia practitioner. The courses are offered in a variety of class sessions and New Jersey locations starting in February. Complete course descriptions, fees and registration information are available at the company’s website, http://www.njcala.com.

“The health care industry is one of the largest industries in the country and a top area to build a career today,” said Laurie Loughney, principal and one of the curriculum designers and instructors at Longtree & Associates. “We’ve seen government figures that project employment in the healthcare and social assistance industry to increase by nearly 30 percent through 2022, and even during the economic downturn, jobs in health care were going strong while other sectors shrank.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that while total U.S. employment dropped by over 2% between 2000 and 2010, health care employment grew by more than 25% during the same period. The agency also forecasts a 22% growth in employment for licensed nursing home and assisted living administrators through 2020, with a projected 761,000 new jobs in residential/nursing homes. More than eight million people are cared for in nursing home and long-term care facilities in the U.S.

The Longtree & Associates 2015 course offerings are as follows:

  • CMA/Certified Medication Aide – This 30-hour course is for NJ-certified nursing aides and certified home health aides who want to move up the career ladder. Students will learn the proper and effective administration, purposes and effects, and proper storage of medications; medication abbreviations; handling medication errors; and assisting residents with self-administration of prepared treatments and insulin.
  • CALA/Certified Assisted Living Administrator Course – A four-day course that teaches the skills and knowledge needed to successfully manage an assisted living or other related senior community. Successful completion prepares students to sit for the NJ DHSS state exam; this course also meets NJ state requirements to become an adult day health services program administrator. Modules include assisted living values, the aging process, assessment and care plans, managed risk, services, regulatory compliance, human resource and financial management, and more. Includes two eight-hour clinical and operations practicums.
  • LNHA/Licensed Nursing Home Administrator -- This comprehensive 100-hour preparation course covers various aspects of regulatory compliance, Medicare/Medicaid issues, personnel and records management, environment of care, accounting, and facility services. It is approved by the National Administrator Board of the NJ DHSS and successful completion meets the educational qualifications to take the federal exam.
  • Alzheimer’s disease & dementia care seminar -- Every 67 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's dementia, so the need for certified caregivers in this field is growing rapidly. Presented in partnership with Dementia Consultants, LLC, this one-day seminar is a required course for those seeking certification as a certified dementia practitioner. Attendees will learn about the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s dementia; key aspects of the disease; and patient care and caregiver support. It meets the NJ DHSS required dementia training regulations, and is approved by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.

“Our courses help students gain the tools, techniques and insights they need to develop a rewarding career in various long-term care and health care settings, from hospitals and nursing homes to assisted living and other senior-related communities,” said Loughney.

All Longtree & Associates courses meet all New Jersey State licensing and certification requirements and certain course modules are available for social work, nursing and certified assisted living administrator CEUs.
