Bill Stuart, President and Chief Operating Officer, said, “With the launch of Assessment 2.0, and now this enhanced design and usability improvements, COMS has not only dramatically improved nursing workflow, but is embarking on a true revolution in how care is being delivered in the post-acute market by bringing data visualization to the frontline nurse in real time.”

COMS’ focus remains on improving bedside care and equipping frontline nurses with the tools and knowledge to make evidence-based decisions. The most recent product update has functionality that can assist the nurse to identify and treat residents based on highest acuity. “Everything we were given in the Usability Updates has given us the opportunity to continue to increase the nurses' efficiency in using COMS, making it much simpler to incorporate COMS into the nurses daily workflow,” said Pam Davis, Clinical Implementation Coordinator and COMS Customer.

In the example shown, a new onset condition is clearly and simply visible and ultimately resulted in the clinical team interceding before the Emergency Department visit was required. With this view, the condition alerts became more obvious and dramatically decreased response time. With some experts suggesting that up to 40% of hospital readmissions could be avoided, the recent COMS’ system updates can have major implications on both hospital readmissions and overall outcomes. By identifying early changes in condition, there is more opportunity to treat the resident appropriately on-site, before the condition worsens.

COMS’ design enhancement also included simplified menus and navigation changes. All of the changes allow for a fuller, more intuitive clinical picture of the resident that is easier to train and easier to use. For those in supervisory or management positions, the interactive graphs show big-picture trends in resident health, allowing for earlier detection of changes in condition and responsive treatment.
