Case Mix Coach lets you document and submit consistent, accurate MDS data every time
Case Mix Coach lets you document and submit consistent, accurate MDS data every time. By implementing the Case Mix Coach, you can proactively review your assessment documentation so it more accurately represents the care required for each patient.
The coaching tool alerts you to possible inconsistencies in your MDS data. Where appropriate, the system suggests alternative responses. The Case Mix Coach analyzes MDS data from any vendor's MDS software application. Upon completion of your MDS documentation and before you close the file, you will send your data to the Case Mix Coach for review. Several reports are generated for reviewing MDS data. The coaching reports help you identify possible inconsistent values in your MDS data. They also reports on MDS responses that, if edited when substantiated with clinical documentation, would result in a RUG III classification change. You can then review the suggestions and decide the course of action for your resident. The Case Mix Coach can make a significant difference in your MDS documentation and resulting revenue.

Main Menu
Upon entering the Case Mix Coach, you're presented with necessary options to import your MDS files, review Coaching reports on your MDS data and customize your system settings specific to your facility.

Coaching Reports
You can review reports for your last imported, unlocked MDS file for Medicare and Medicaid residents. The Coaching report identifies inconsistent answers, by resident, from your MDS data. You can review and evaluate the coaching tips for each resident. Your care team may decide to modify an assessment choice to reflect a more accurate choice for a resident. The Case Mix Coach will show you the impact on the cost and revenue associated with the assessment change.

Staffing Time
By setting your budgeted, allowable staffing minutes per resident per day, CMC will prevent you from over- or under-staffing based on residents by RUG class.

Inspecting MDS Data
The colored tabs note the major categories represented on the MDS. At this option in CMC, you can isolate the MDS items by resident that will impact your RUG class. View current assessment responses by major category with the option to identify inconsistencies and examine potential modifications to more accurate represent the care provided by your clinicians.

Coaching Tips
As you inspect resident-specific MDS data, you will be coached through messages like, "This seems inconsistent." Or "Review Resident Documentation." All of these cues can be printed to check against the clinical documentation for the resident and for review with your care team.

Customize System
The Case Mix Coach can be set up with facility-specific parameters for Coaching Controls, Costs, Resident Groups and Other Items. Coaching Controls let you determine the range at which the coaching cue message will remind you to review your assessment information for possible inconsistencies or conflicting information. Costs demonstrates the coaching cues impact on the cost and revenue associated with recommending additional care. Resident Groups lets you group residents by location, payor source and other user-specified categories. Other Items lets you assign a default path for your MDS file and other system preferences.

Roster Reports
Case Mix Coach includes the Quality Indicator reports for your use prior to the Survey Team arriving. In fact, you can access these reports anytime. The Case Mix Coach reports use all locked MDS 2.0 Quarterly Assessments. To access Quality Indicator reports, open Case Mix Coach and select the Roster Reports. Select Print Quality Indicator Reports.
