October is National Residents’ Rights Month, a time to honor and reflect on the individual rights of residents living in all long-term care facilities, including rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers; sub-acute and transitional care units; and assisted living and retirement communities.

Braintree, MA (PRWEB) - National Residents’ Rights Month is a time to honor and reflect on the individual rights of residents living in all long-term care facilities, including rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers; sub-acute and transitional care units; and assisted living and retirement communities.

Residents’ Rights are guaranteed by the federal 1987 Nursing Home Reform Law. The National Long Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center specifies that the law requires nursing homes to “promote and protect the rights of each resident” while providing care in a manner that supports and enhances the quality of life of each resident, ensuring dignity, choice, and self-determination.

South Shore Elder Services in Braintree, MA, recently hosted a Residents’ Rights Luncheon attended by residents from several Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group rehabilitation and nursing centers, including Colonial in Weymouth, Harbor House in Hingham and John Scott House in Braintree. “It’s an opportunity for every center to focus on respect and celebrate the dignity and value of each individual resident,” says Richard M. Welch, president of Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group.

South Shore Elder Services provides services in the following communities: Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham, Holbrook, Hull, Milton, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph, Scituate and Weymouth.
