Meridian Senior Living Continues Its Successful Virtual Resource Series Aimed At Educating Family Caregivers

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) - For 2021, National Senior Housing Operator Meridian Senior Living has launched the Meridian Virtual Resource Series, a presentation series dedicated to providing invaluable, relevant information to family members and seniors as they navigate the journey of life. The series consists of quarterly virtual presentations with wide ranging topics delivered by author and subject experts. These sessions cover topics including role reversal, surviving as an Alzheimer’s caregiver, brain health, and embracing change. With foundations of success gained from the first presentation, Meridian resumes the momentum of the series by offering subsequent sessions that are free and open to the public.

“The Meridian Virtual Resource Series is delivering life changing information to a growing audience as these unprecedented times are thrusting many adult children into the role of caregiver to their aging parents,” said Sue Johnston, VP Program Development, Meridian Senior Living. “We are thrilled to offer practical and impactful resources to adult children who face caretaking challenges that have been intensified by COVID-19.”

The first presentation in the series, held in January 2021, focused on role reversal. Serving the needs of family caregivers who are overwhelmed with daily challenges in providing care to their aging parents, award winning author Iris Waichler presented coping strategies in the first session of the series. Many of the strategies presented are featured in Ms. Waichler’s comprehensive guide "Role Reversal: How to Take Care of Yourself and Your Aging Parents". During the presentation, over eighty-five participants gained information about topics such as estate planning, emotional support, building a support network, and finding the most suitable level of care for your loved one.

Caregivers can register now for the upcoming presentation: My Two Elaines: Learning, Coping, and Surviving as an Alzheimer’s Caregiver taking place on May 18th at 6:00PM ET. Author and former Wisconsin Governor Martin Schreiber will present sage advice to those taking on the caregiver’s role based on his personal experience taking care of his wife with Alzheimer’s as outlined in his book "My Two Elaines: Learning, Coping, and Surviving as an Alzheimer’s Caregiver". Mr. Schreiber will share how having patience, flexibility, and a sense of fun can help those who have been unpredictably flung into the role of caregiver. Advocating for Alzheimer’s caregivers, Schreiber has traveled to twenty-three states to provide support to families and healthcare providers in understanding the importance of counseling and other resources to de-stigmatize the disease, reduce stress, and alleviate guilt. Interested participants can learn more about this virtual presentation and register to attend by contacting a Meridian Senior Living community near you.

Future presentations include topics on Brain Health and Embracing Change. On July 20th at 6:30PM ET, Dr. Paul Nussbaum will present: "Brain Health: Making a Difference Right Now". Dr. Nussbaum is board-certified in Clinical Psychology and Geropsychology with a specialization in Neuropsychology. With 30 years’ experience caring for persons with dementia, Dr Nussbaum is the Founder and President of Brain Health Center, Inc. and has presented his views on Brain Health to the United Nations, National Press Club, Mensa, Sirius Radio and CSPAN. All presentations in the Meridian Virtual Resource Series are open and free to the public with registration.
